Voice calls are an imperative interruption and answering them will, if I'm programming, destroy necessary mental context.
I appreciate text messages to 207-944-0456 (US).
Text messages place similar cost on sender and recipient by enforcing pithiness, not interrupting the recipient, and generally being entered through an interface that matches the effort of sending with the effort of reading and reacting. I far prefer them.
If you absolutely cannot send text messages, I do answer voice mail at the above number. If you leave a message, I'll get back to you, and if I'm not coding, I may even pick up.
As for email....
"Yeah, email still has SOME value. But going down all the time. I far prefer people not send me private notes. Scalable communication."
—Robert Scoble
Email has architectural problems not shared by modern forms of communication, in addition to the spam problem, so I give priority to text messages. While I do read email to sk@sethwklein.net, I do not generally respond unless the subject is business.
